CAITLIN - Add transparent layer on top of header

Hi,
I would like to add a layer floating on top to header images. This will soften their visual impact and will render them coloured quite like my colour scheme.
How could I place a coloured layer on top of header (but behind logo)?

Presuming I understand you correctly any module placed in the 'showcase' module position will float over your header slideshow.
