1. Navigate to Extensions -> Extensions Manager
2. Click Browse and select the mod_slideshow.zip from the Joomla 1.6 folder of your
template package
3. Once installed navigate to Extensions -> Module Manager
4. Click New and select ImageSlideShow
5. Set up you slideshow module as follows

Show Title - No
Enabled - Yes
Module Position – Showcase
Image Directory - images/sampledata/parks/animals *
Height in pixels - 188
Width in pixels – 680
Transition Delay - 50 (change to taste)
Next Image Delay - 4000 (change to taste)

* Your slideshow will read the images from a folder of your choice. Using Joomlas Images folder you can navigate to Content -> Media Manager to upload your images. For best results its recommended to resize your images to 680px * 188px before uploading.
