I recently upgraded my site from Joomla 2.5 to 3.3.6 I was using the Substance template before and after the upgrade I uninstalled the Substance template and then reinstalled the 3.x version of the Substance template.
For the most part all is good but I am unable to disable the "RSS Feed URL" and "Twitter URL" Social Media Icons. These two fields came prepopulated with:
http://www.joomla51.com/rss and
https://twitter.com/#!/Joomla51
I am unable to delete the contents of the fields. I can populate them with something else, but we do not actually want links to RSS Feed or Twitter on our site, so this is not helpful either.
If I delete the contents of the two RSS Feed URL and Twitter URL fields and then save, they will not stay blank but populate with the text as shown above.
Please help.

Nope, still not working. There is definitely still not a space () left in the fields as I cannot save it blank/empty. I clear the space either manually or using the "X" and as soon as I hit save the field is repopulated with the default code as described in my original post.
I tried adding the code in the Custom CSS field as you mentioned, as well, but this did not work either
