Ok I think I understand

Presuming you are using Joomla 3.x and it is with a 'Cateogry Blog' menu item you can try adding the following to the Custom CSS field of your templates parameters where #cccccc is your background color (edit to taste)..

.blog .item, .leading-0, leading-1, leading-2 {

    background: #cccccc;

    padding: 20px;

}
