To reduce the space between top menu items try adding the following to the Custom CSS field of your templates parameters (Extensions -> Templates -> [YourTemplateStyle] -> Custom CSS)....

Edit to taste

.hornav > ul > li {

    margin-left: 5px;

    margin-right: 5px;

}


I believe other header spacing queries have been answered in other posts.
