Kindle - Users registering with no "new user" form

Over the past 2 weeks or so I've received email messages from my website, http://www.meaninglessgarden.com, telling me that a new user has registered.
1. There is no user registration form on the website
2. These appear to be hacks
3. I've removed the "registered" and other un-needed groups
4. The hacker-users appeared originally as "registered" & now appear with no group
5. I've several websites based on Kindle. I has happened on all of them.
6. Joomla 3.4.3, Win 7 Ultimate
Is this a Kindle issue or a joomla issue?
Suggestions, please.

Solution.
The Registration Form is still there even when no menu item points to it.
Direct access to it is via the url.
So, turn off "New User Registration" in the Options of User Manager
