I am in search of Journal template for Joomla 5 / Joomla 6.

I'm trying to update my client from J4 to J5 and I only see it in Joomla 4.

Thanks,
Lisa

Hi Lisa.
Unfortunately, the developer has currently stepped away, and no one knows what will happen next.

Please take a look at this post here as well:
https://www.joomla51.com/forum/future

I can't predict the future, but I can't even find the template you mentioned among the current ones. I’d put the chances of the developer ever updating that template again at less than 0.1 percent. If you want to stick with Joomla51 for now, pick one of the seven newest templates ...

It's a Joomla 4 template. I actually did some research and then took my chances. I was able to update to J5 without issue and it still works great! According to some research on the template files with the help of ChatGPT, the J51 template framework is lightweight and not bloated so if it didn't work there were only a few places of code to update.

Here's a response from a google search about Ciaran --
Ciarán Walsh, the sole developer and owner behind the Joomla51 template club, has been largely unresponsive in his own community forums and direct emails.According to consensus within the Joomla community, this situation involves the following details:Full-Time Employment: Ciarán has taken full-time roles with other software companies, leading to a noticeable decline in new Joomla51 development since late 2020.

No Official Statement: He has not posted an official explanation in his forums, leaving many users without direct template support or updates.

Online Activity: While absent from Joomla support, he has occasionally been seen active on private GitHub repositories and LinkedIn.Because of his extended absence, community users have had to help one another by attempting to find temporary workarounds or code fixes for Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 compatibility

If you have at least some development experience in PHP and Joomla, it's not overly complicated to get a J4 template to run under J5 and J6 (even with the respective compatibility plugins disabled). At minimum, you have to replace the old J3 class aliases by the new ones (J4+); the necessary information to do so can be found in manual.joomla.org.

I have to stress that by doing so, you may get a template working under J5/6, but to be future-proof, you need to do a complete refactoring of the template. I know about a project from some Joomla core developers to provide software to (semi-) automate that process; but the project is in its early stages.
