Could you confirm for us that you are adding the images within the article rather than using the 'Images & Links' option along the right of your article editor. Your Joomla Newsflash module will only display images within the article.
I've realized that in order for the images to display in the Articles - Newsflash module, I had to insert the image itself in the article, defeating the purpose of the "Main Article Image" option.
The "Intro Image" from the article only actually works in a Blog layout (from a menu), which is a pity, cos in order for these categories to show on my front page - I'm limited to either "Articles - Newsflash" module or "Articles Category"...
