I experimented today with my Grafik site, counseling library.org, trying to figure out the Icons module. Finally jerry-rigged it, it lookd pretty good except -

1) It doesn't display with anything like the styling on the demo, whichh I wanted. The demo displays the icons with a black outline, blow fill, and white text. On my site, I could only display the icons as simple line drawings. I was able to change their color, which helped a little. But by and large, the styling is missing.

2) How do I left-justiy it all? Only way I figured out to display was center it, then build another separate Custom HTML ppearing in the same module position as each icon. Is there a way to do all this as one integrated application, icon, title, and text together?.

Hi Carrie

1. May I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will examine this issue further. For our reference please paste a link to this post in your email.

2. Your best option would be to adjust the icons horizontal margin until they are taking up the full width provided without wrapping to a second line. We can attempt this for you with the access.

Ok, I just emailed you temporary admin access, as you requested. (I added access to another site that I also posted about on the Forum last night.)

I appreciate you looking into the icon issue here on my site, counselinglibrary.org. If possible, could you also provide description and/or screenshots of the process and elements you used to create the icon displays used on recent templates (looks like it's the last 3?) Because there's no tutorial info available yet on this module, I was just guessing, trying to copy the style, and am not sure I was following the best process.

What I did was: create 4 separate Custom HTML modules, set to Top modules a-d, providing there the title and description for each. Then I created 4 separate Icon modules, also setting them to the same module position, and ordering them to appear first, before the text.

Is that the recommended process, or is there a process you'd recommend instead? I plan to build more of these on other sites, so I want to make sure I'm following the right steps.

Actually, I think I might have figured out why the styling looks different than the demo. I am installing a GridGallery to the same site, and was surprised to see the grid look like Renovate's demo, rather than Grafik's. Then I remembered that I installed Renovate, and all its Extensions, after Grafik, with all its extensions, to test out its basic look before installing it to another site - not realizing that in doing so, I probably did an over-write on all Grafik's extension files, changing them to Renovate's.

I actually really like Renovate's GridGallery here, so this is a happy accident. Though I would like to change the font in the gallery and all the extensions. I really don't like the all-caps font. How and where can I change this? Also, all the modules display too much space on the bottom - how can that be adjusted?

I'll still probably want to change to Grafik's SlideShow extension and maybe also the Icons (jury's still out.) Since I've already built 4 Icons modules (in the Renovate style within Grafik), if I overwrite the Icon module again, pulling from the Grafik template files, will this destroy what I've already done? Or will it just update it to Grafik's style, as I intended?

HI Carrie

I have installed the Icons module from our Grafik template and your icons are now styled as you see them in the Grafik template demo. Note that this module differs slightly from your previous icons module in that it uses FontAwesome icons (http://demo.joomla51.com/0111/index.php/features/font-awesome) which gives you a lot more icons to choose from.

The way you have your icons module set up is fine. Another possibly easier solution is to create a single instance of the module with the 4 icons implemented however the result would be pretty much the same.

Beautiful - this is SO much better - thank you!!

I will be building some other icon modules in other places in this site and others. Just for future reference - it would be nice to just have to build one icon gallery rather than several. I did 4 this time, so as to assign them to the same module position as the 4 separate Custom HTML modules, I built containing the title and text for each item displaying with the 4 icons.

In the future, is there a simpler way to do this? Again, I'm just trying to replicate what you've got on your more recent demos, icon displaying above or to the side of descriptive text.

Hi Carrie

Considering this we have added a title and decription field to each icon on modules released with our recent templates. This will allow you to create everything within the one module! :)

Awesome news! Yes, I just looked at Habitat, for example, and saw the title and description fields. My Habitat website is the next one I'll be adding images and icons too, so this makes me very happy! It will definitely make the job a whole lot easier, to create one module rather than 8! :)

I actually had the thought earlier this week, as I created my icon modules in Renovate (with the older icon module) "Why in the world don't they put in title and description fields so you can do it all in one place?" And, "Why do they only have a few of the icons available, rather than all the Font Awesome icons?" Looks like great minds think alike :cheer: as you've made both these adjustments to these later templates. (Looks like... from Grafik on, yes? Grafik, Habitat, and Lifestyle?)

So next question - I'd selected LetterPress for my 4th website. Can I use one of these newer icon modules there? Is there one you'd recommend to be most compatible with LetterPress style-wise?

Hi Carrie

All Icon modules since our Brooklyn template include an option to add a title and description. You should have no issue using any of these modules with our Letterpress template :).. if you do happen to find an issue just let us know and we will hopefully find a solution for you!

Lovely - Can't wait to play with this new toolbox!

So, if I'm understanding correctly, with your J51 extensions - GridGallery, Icons, and Slide Show especially - you can basically "mix and match" the style you want from the different templates. Like, Template #1 as a basic design foundation, with, say, the Grid Gallery from Template #2, and the Icon Style of Template #3. If it's not quite right you can over-write, say, the Grid Gallery from Template #4 to replace the one in #2. Is that a correct understanding?

When you replace an extension (as you did for me yesterday with my Icons), does that preserve the content you put in under the first extension style? It appears to be so, as the icons I chose with the old Renovate style now appear with the Grafik style you popped in. So, if this is correct, you could create content in one style, then tweak its look by installing (overwriting) an extension from another template. Yes/no?

If my understanding of all this is correct, as I have described it here, then in my view that is one of the red-letter huge plusses of your template system - to have that kind of flexibility. I hope it's true - and if it is, it should be advertised on your site somewhere, because it is awesomely cool, and people should know about it! :)

Hi Carrie

Yes that is pretty much it. Installing the same module from a different template in our collection will only effect the core files for this module and will not effect anything saved to the database, for example your module settings. Note that if you install a version of a module which excludes certain fields available in the original (eg. title field), the details for that field will remain in case you choose to revert back to the original. It does have its draw backs, primarily that you cant have 2 versions of the same module on any given site however we hope this to be a minor detail. :)

Yeah, it is a minor detail. I'm so excited to play with this! Truly, this is a "best kept secret" about these amazing templates.

I've done my biggest, hardest 2 websites first, facing the learning curve there. I've already got all the content and functionality programmed into the other two. Now, time to play with these wonderful J51 toys, to finish making these sites pretty!

Day after day, I so appreciate your professionalism and care. Your flawless design eye, and your compassionate, consistent response in supporting us "newbies" out here, are stellar. Ciaran, you totally rock! :woohoo:
