Here goes,

I'm using a right side menu and the structure I want to present is as follows:

Almanacs
____1870's
_______1872
_______1873
_______etc.

I want it so the 1872, 1873, etc. links are hidden until at which time "1870's" is clicked. However, I do not want the main body of the screen to show an article or category list of links. I want the main body to remain unchanged until at which time the year 1872, etc. is clicked.

In the Menu Manager I have the years listed as sub-menu items under 1870's. I tried using "Separator" and all that does is give me the text with no link.

Is there anyway of doing this?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Wayne

Unfortunately I'm not aware of a solution with CSS alone however the following extension might be the answer (Joomla 1.5 only)..

http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/structure-a-navigation/menu-systems/accordion-menus/17947

Once installed create your parent items as separators.. the module displays them as links and will therefore be styled as a typical menu item. If clicked it will then display its child items. When setting up the module ensure to set 'Always show sub-menu items' to 'Yes'

I'll be darned if I can figure it out, but here goes.

I downloaded the module (thanks kindly Ciaran) and installed it with no problems. Following the instructions I set it up. The "How to install' PDF missed the "Module Class Suffix" of the Advanced Parameters section whereby you have to input "_menu" into the field. I went ahead and put it in.

After all this it would not expand the menus. They are always expanded. Even then the first item in the list, 1872, does nothing in the Folding Menu list of items. I started examining the Folding Menu module. There is, to my non-programmer's eye, no difference between it and the standard Main Menu module that comes with Joomla. The module works flawlessly on the programmer's site.

To ensure that it was not my install of the Neptune template I set as default the Rhuk Milkyway template with the same results.

I'll gladly set you up with administrative rights Ciaran if you would like to take a look. My thought is to a Main Menu item called Almanacs with a sub-menu item called 1870's with its own sub-menu items.

Cordially,
Wayne

Hi Wayne

I have set up a new folding menu module and it appears to be working without issue.

I did notice before it was working correctly I had to clear your Joomla cache.

Ciaran,

Odd, I made a copy of the one you got to work correctly and changed the menu item it points to and the title. In the new menu item on my front page, "Other", there is a submenu item called "Our Almanac" with an article sub item.

When I click on Other > Our Almanac it opens Almanac > 1870s.

Odd. It makes me think that perhaps I can have only one instance of Folding Menu. BTW, I would respectfully request a response for the private e-mail. Especially if your can answer this problem. :)

Hi Wayne

You appear to be correct in saying that only one instance of the folding tree type menu works correctly. I've tried a few alterations and none with any luck.

I'd suggest contacting the developer of the plugin and see if this is truly the case and if so if there is a possible fix.

Failing that I'll have a scout around and see if there is an alternative.

I though of contacting the developer. Unfortunately the site is in, I believe, Spanish and thus I might misspeak my intention.

Thanks for the excellent work!!!
