faster sites

I know I need to optimise the images and deal with the cache etc.
I have found info on the above issues but I cannot find something out of the box to deal with Defer parsing JavaScript.

I just found this.. would you recommend it or something better?

What are your thoughts on loading times with Joomla…… it seems odd that so much has to be done to get them performing better.

I always enable gzip compression and conservative caching

Admittedly I am not familiar with the above extension so I can not say for sure. One extension that comes well recommended is JCH Optimize (http://extensions.joomla.org/extension/jch-optimize).

A lot of the 'tweaks' for speeding up your site are best done when you have finished development as they tend to hinder putting your site together. Also not all tweaks suit all sites which I guess is the reasoning why such features are not default with Joomla.
