Bought and installed Catalyst yesterday on my Joomla 2.5 test site and have noticed that the slideshow is not displaying correctly on Android mobile devices. Perhaps there are issues I am not aware of ?

It displays the initial image correctly and then as soon as the transitions kick in all you get is a mosaic of tiny pictures or several vertical images all squashed together.

Hi Saul

Would you have a URL to an example of your slideshow?

Yes the site is at

http://www.yamahaforums.co.uk/joomla25/

I should point out it's fine on the iPad and iPhone, it's just Android devices that seem to have a problem.

Thanks

Thank you Saul

Try adding the following CSS to the Csstom CSS field of your templates parameters..
.box_clone img {height:340px;}
Where 340px is the height of your slideshow module.

Thanks. I tried that but nothing has changed. Still corrupted on Android. Tried on Samsung Galaxy S3 phone and Galaxy Tab 10.1

Hi Saul

May I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com so we can examine this issue further.

I made it useable by switching to the 'fade' transition. All the others are not usable, at least not on the android devices I have tried. Am hoping I have better luck with the video embedding.

I'm getting the same results. Only the fade & fade four work. The problem seems to be in the JS.

Good to know I am not the only one. Have also noticed the transition is not that smooth on Android devices. It's better in the stock Android browser..not smooth but it's very glitchy in Opera and Dolphin.

The slideshow uses the skitter js which as you have rightly pointed out seems very jittery on the android platform. We are going to look in to a suitable alternative using maybe nivo slider or even CSS3 once browser support improves.

Regarding the multiple image issue on some transistions you could try also setting the width in the Custom CSS which will hopefully solve the issue in all transistion directions. Something like...
.box_clone img {height:340px; width:600px;}
Unfortunately that didn't change anything. Only transition even slightly working is 'fade' but still choppy. Other transitions don't work properly.

Also noticed the thumbs gallery doesn't work right on Android. On Mac/PC/iPad clicking on a thumb opens a window where you can navigate through the pictures but on Android it just goes straight to a blank page with the photo in the top left.

Hi Saul

Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a solution to the choppyness of the slideshow on Android as this appears to be an issue with the skitter script (http://www.skitter-slider.net/). If you would like to take advantage of some of the other transitions within the slideshow may I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will examine the transition issue further.

The slimbox script used with our thumbs gallery module will not load when opened on an Android device however if you wish to set us up with temporary FTP access to the module folder of your Joomla installation we can set up an alternative script (http://shadowbox-js.com or http://fancybox.net/).

Thought I would revisit this topic as it's been a few weeks and wanted to see if any changes have been made. I appreciate you want to help but do you really need admin access to my site in order to change the script? It's not something that can be sent to me so I can install myself? As a hosting provider i am always reluctant to give out admin access to anyone who does not actually host with us however if you can are sure this is the only way to get this working then of course I will forward details to you.

Just one thing though, did no one test this template on Android devices before it went on sale?

Hi Saul

As the Autson slideshow which we have been using can appear choppy on Android devices we have begun development on our own slideshow which uses more widely supported CSS3 transitions. I have made this module available (Joomla 2.5) at the following URL hopefully amending any issues on mobile devices.... http://joomla51.com/temp/mod_j51slideshow.zip
