Hello

Please create following menu structure:

Link 1 (type alias > points to Link 1.1)
Link 1.1 (type single article, is sublevel of Link 1)

You will notice on mobile devices you can't access Link 1.1.
Even the sublevel indicator icon is missing in mobile and in desktop view:

missing-icon-2.jpg

Not sure if besides Carmen and Ariana other templates are affected as well. In Robyn it's OK.

How to fix this?

Thanks a lot.

Patrick

Thank you Patrick

Using a 'Separator' menu item as the parent has resolved the issue. Have you a particular need to use a 'Menu Item Alias' as the parent?

Hi Ciaran and thanks for having a look at it

Yes I have reasons:
A menu separator is no link = I can't link to "Link 1.1" and user can't click on "Link 1".
Google can't index top level links of type separator because it's no link.

That's why I want to use menu type "alias". This creates nice links to submenu links and without having different URL's to same content = no duplicate content!

Thanks.

Hi Patrick

I have made some changes to your template. Could you check for me that your issue is now resolved?

Hi Patrick

Is 'alias' currently used for your menu item? The dropdown indicator is currently displayed on desktop and we can also access the dropdown on mobile.

Hi Ciaran

Yes, top level meu item is of type "alias".

Parent indicator is there. That is fine, thank you.

But "old" problem still is there as well (as I wrote in my first post):

Open homepage in mobile view. Go to page Link 1.1. Now (still in mobile view) try to open submenu of Link 1 to access Link 1.2.
It's not possible.

Hi Patrick

Testing your menu on the default Joomla template (Protostar), we are finding the same behavior. The parent menu (Link 1) item is currently linking to Link 1.1. Are you sure that this is a template related issue?

Hi Ciaran

With Protostar template it's even worse. Tha't useless.
In mobile mode it's not possible to open the submenu if parent is of type 'alias'. Because parent 'Link 1' redirects to 'Link 1.1'. This is OK for desktop but not for mobile.

With your menu it works. The only issue is the one as described before.

I guess you wrote your own menu system for your templates?

All you would have to do is to adjust it, so that submenu can be opened if user has opened page 'Link 1.1'. All the rest works fine with your menu system.
In my opinion it must be possible to access other links in same submenu (mobile mode), if user alread has opened a sub-link from there.

Thank you.

Hi Patrick

The menu system is set by the Joomla CMS and not the template. The template can override the markup of the menu item but, I am sorry to say, not the functionality. It sounds like you wish to change how a menu item is linked on smaller screen devices. One option would be to create 2 different menu items, displaying one only on desktop, the other only on mobile.

Hi Ciaran and thank you

This really is strange. Linking top level menu items to articels = everything is working fine in mobile menu. Using menu type of "alias" causes problems on mobile devices. This does not make sense.

If you like you can check out my demo Carmen. There I have added "Page 2" with submenu "Page 2.1" and "Page 2.2". Page 2 is not of type alias, but is linking to an article instead.

Basically using our template makes the menu behave different as it does if using Protostar template. Using Protostar template there is no chance to access submenu 1.1 or 2.1 on mobile devices. Using your templates at least allows accessing submenu if top level is of type article. It just does not work if top level is of type alias.

Anyway, you said you did a change to the menu so it shows the sub-level indicator icon. What did you change? Will you add this to your templates as well? I'm afraid of loosing your changes if update templates. :)

Thanks.

Hi Patrick

The update to your template will be included with the next Carmen template update. This update will also be included with any new template releases. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
