Hello,

I need to make a bilingual (EN-FR) site when using the Presence template, the language being either automatically selected based on the browser's language or with manual selection by clicking on a flag.
It should be fully bilingual, including slides where one set will exist for each language, to be picked up automatically when the language is selected. Of course menus, articles etc ... will be different in each language.

Do you recommend using JoomFish for the above multilingual purpose with the Presence slideshow ?
Or do you recommend another method ?

Thanks,
-michel

Hi Michel

Your choice of extension very much depends on how you wish your content to be translated. Would you like your content to be translated on the fly by software (JoomlaFish or Google Translate) or would you like to translate the content yourself, creating duplicate site content for each language?

Hello Ciaran,

I need to provide accurate translation myself for each entity of content, so kind of duplicate site content.
In the past I had a large Joomla web site like that using JoomFish configured for picking up the appropriate pieces of contents based on locale. This normally works well and apriori I don't see reasons why the Presence template should create problem isn't it, though I saw a number of posts in the forum where users had some problems that had to be resolved by duplicating the template ?

The other area is probably not Presence-specific and I need to test myself: checking that JoomFish (or another package) enables to specify alternate images corresponding to the Images section of the Autson module management. I was just wondering whether you have seen users getting alternate images based on locale and which extension (ie JoomFish or another) they were using with the Autson slideshow used with your nice templates.

Thanks,
-michel

Hi Michel

To date we haven't had any issues with the JoomFish extension and our Presence template. Creating multiple styles of the template can be a suitable solution when you wish to use different template settings depending on the language for example if you wish to use a different logo and slogan for each language.

One element you may have trouble with is that the top menu is selected from the templates parameters rather than through a menu module however converting the top menu area to a module position is relatively easy (http://www.joomla51.com/forum/support/commercial-templates/executive-menu#5287). Alternatively as with the logo you can create a new template style for each language, selecting a different menu for each language within the template styles parameters.

For your Autson slideshow you can also create a new instance of the module for each of your languages. Language can be set for any module within the module settings.
