Adding pop up to main page

I want to add a pop up to the main page of our website, so that when visitors go there I can display an urgent message.

I installed simplepopup but it does not do the job. Any other ideas?

I am not personally familiar with any extension for this however there does appear to be a number of them available. To see what is currently available check out.. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/style-a-design/popups-a-iframes
