To amend try adding the following to the Custom CSS field of your templates parameters (edit to taste where # is the URL to your image)...

#container_copyright {

    background-color: #52504f;

    background-image: url("#");

    margin-top: 40px;

}

I figured the copyright area was the only place to do this, but I need to add the footer info (found in base2 position).

Plus, I have signup form, that needs to be at the top of the footer, in the orange area. (where copyright info is right now)

How is this done in the copyright position?

Sounds like it might be better for you to use the base area of your template instead (base-1a, etc.) as it would have the necessary module positions. For this area of your template to display a full width background we would have to make a few amendments to your template. May I suggest sending temporary administration access to your Joomla installation to info@joomla51.com and we will make these changes for you. For our reference please paste a link to this post in your email.

I have amended your template so the base area covers the full width of your browser. As you appear to set different backgrounds on different pages, one option would be to create multiple styles for your template with different 'Custom CSS' applied to each.
