I installed with the demo installer.

When I open a supplied article (from the installer) it opens in a layout I assume is the same layout as when you go to the blog menu item ( just a header image - not the big image as per the front page).

However, when I create an article myself and open it it opens on the main home page with the large header image and NOT the layout with the small header image. What have I done wrong.

I emailed this question a couple of days ago before I realised the forum was the place for support. I would rather not publish the url.

The header layout issue can be resolved by changing the Menu Item Type for the Home item from 'Category Blog - Alternative' to just the standard 'Category Blog'. and leaving Menu Item Blog set at 'Category Blog - Alternative'.

However the articles displayed on the home page are not formatted the same - with the image above the text and it looks a right mess. Any thoughts Ciaran?

Hello

So Joomla uses menu items to assign on what pages a module is to appear ([Module Settings -> Menu Assignment tab). This gets a little more complicated when no menu items exist for a page which I believe is the case for your article. To resolve this you need to create a hidden menu item for your articles ('Category Blog' menu item). You can un-assign any unwanted modules via the module settings. For more information on this subject, you can check out.. https://magazine.joomla.org/issues/issue-mar-2014/item/1790-using-hidden-menus
