Once you have received your new template you will notice it is packaged as a single zipped archive. Before you install your template you must first unzip this archive into its separate components. For Xp and Vista users check out How To UnZip a File for a details description on how to unzip your archive. Alternatively you can use a third party program such as WinZip and WinRar.

- J51_template_name.zip - This is your Joomla installation template file
- J51 - Template Name.txt - A text document detailing the particulars of the template
- ModulePositions.jpg - Image file displaying module positions and names
- Header.psd - Adobe Photoshop header to customize the template header
- Header_Blank.zip - A blank header to customize the template header
Once you have unzipped the Joomla51 template package, log into your Joomla Admin and go to Extensions -> Install/Uninstall
Click on the Browse button and select j51_template.zip file from the unzipped archive. For this tutorial we have used the Element template, the j51_template.zip for this template is named j51_element.zip. Once you have selected the template click Upload file & install to install the template to your Joomla installation.
After the upload and install is complete you should expect confirmation that the template was installed correctly.
Before you get to view you template in action you will first need to set the template as Default, to do so navigate to your Template Manager (Extensions -> Template Manager).
Your Default template would be marked with a yellow star. To select your new template as default simply click on the radio button next to your new template title and click Default to the top right of the screen.
Your Jomla51 template should now be installed and set as default.
